Spinal Stenosis

The purpose of this multi center, randomized clinical trial is to establish the safety and effectiveness of the TOPS™ System. The device is designed to preserve motion while stabilizing the spine. It is used in the treatment of lower back and leg pain that results from moderate to severe spinal stenosis at one lumbar level from L3 - L5.

A partial list of the inclusion criteria includes:

  • Age 40-75
  • Moderate to severe Spinal Stenosis at a single level between L3-L5
  • Six months of failed conservative treatment including Physical Therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and administration of epidural or facet injections to relieve pain.
  • Patients may also have degenerative spondylolisthesis.

Some of the visits to the physician will include: A physical and exam of the nerves, completion of questionnaires to assist in the diagnosis and to follow the progress of the postoperative period, to determine the affect of the surgery on their pain, daily function, mobility and other information. X-rays will also be taken.
